Recipe on How to Prepare Apple Pop Tart

Step1: Before making bread, the dough has to be prepared.

Flour, sugar and salt should be whisked together in a large mixing bowl. Mix in the cold, cubed butter and cut it with a pastry cutter or your fingers into the dry ingredients until the result is the consistency of coarsely chopped butter. Add an ice water, 1 tablespoonful at a time, until the dough can be pressed together.

Roll out the dough, cut into half then make them into a disk form whereby one wraps the plastic wrap then goes into the refrigerator to cool therein at least 30 minutes.

Step 2: Fill the Apple Filling

As the dough is cooling off, make the apple filling. Mix the peeled and chopped apples, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and lemon juice in a small saucepan. Cook it on medium heat constantly stirring it after every few minutes till it becomes mashed and soft and the mixture thickens after an approximately 10 minutes of time. In case it is not thick enough add the corn-starch and continue cooking for a further minute.

Take off the heat and allow the filling to cool down.

Step 3: Rolling and cutting the dough

Heat your oven to 375 o F (190 o C). Lay some parchment paper on a baking sheet.

Roll one of the pieces of dough into a thin disk, about 1 8-inch thick on a lightly floured surface. Slice to rectangles (approximately 3 inch by 4 inch). Do the same using a second disk. All in all, you will have around 12-16 squares, that will make either 6 or 8 pop tarts.

Step 4: Put the Pop Tarts together

Put some half of the rectangles on the ready baking sheet. Add about 1-2 tablespoons of apple filling in the middle of each at a distance leaving a small margin at edges. Apply egg wash on the edges and cover with the remaining rectangles.

Crimp the edges using a fork and seal pop tarts. First, prick the top with a fork, so that steam can come out, then brush the tops with extra egg wash to make them a golden final product.

Step 5: Bake till Perfect

Place in the already preheated oven and bake 20 25 mines or until pop tarts are a golden brown colour and the sides are crispy. Take off the oven and leave them to cool a little bit on a wire rack.

Step 6: Glaze (This is optional)

Combine powdered sugar, cinnamon, vanilla and milk, in a small bowl to make a smooth glaze. Put a drizzle on the cooled pop tarts and allow it to dry up a little bit for about 10-15 minutes before serving.
